JUNE 7, 2014 - 2007 to 2013 SF Theft Maps
Looking through some older files, I found a series of maps I had made in January showing both the state of bike thefts in 2007 and 2013, as well as the change in those 5 years. I didn't post it at the time because I'm not sure how insightful they were, as all accounts confirm that the two hot spot areas (the Mission and Market Street) were exactly that. Not surprising.
Despite those two areas being traditionally bike theft hotspots both now and 5 years ago, we do see a increase and concentration of theft in those areas. The map also shows a decrease in theft in the Marina District and Haight Ashbury. Not being a native of San Francisco, I can only conjecture what these trends point to.

The data came from data.sfgov.org. You may need to dig a little to find reports beyond the last 3 months.
